Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is a time to celebrate and support local entrepreneurs in our communities. One way to do that is by shopping local, at businesses like Kayla’s Italian Ice in Georgia, Outcast Donuts in Arizona, or Blue Bar & Smokehouse in South Carolina.

Small businesses depend on all of our support. They also depend on a safe, secure payment system. Read on or watch the videos below to hear more from business owners on how their businesses depend on our existing credit card system.

“The success of small businesses depends on a secure and reliable electronic payment system. Please stand with the small business community and keep the current credit card processing system intact.”
Theresa Bostic
Owner of Kayla’s Italian Ice (Atlanta, GA)
“The CCCA could have severe consequences for small businesses like mine that rely on secure, dependable, and rewarding payment processing. I respectfully ask you to consider the impact this legislation would have on the small businesses that are the backbone of our economy.”
TJ Tillman
Level 1 Arcade Bar & Outcast Doughnuts (Arizona)
“The safety, stability, and support that the current credit card framework provides are foundational to my business’s success. The CCCA is a misguided proposal … I urge Congress to reject the CCCA and focus on policies that truly promote growth, security, and resilience.”
James Rivenbark
Owner of Jars Hospitality (South Carolina)

“If Congress implements these massive changes to our electronic payments system, it's going to hurt my business and the community we serve. Big retailers are going to benefit from the Durbin-Marshall bill, but a small business like mine is going to be collateral damage … We need our elected leaders to stand with small business.”

“When Congress set debit card price controls, all the promises made about consumer savings didn’t happen, and instead it made things harder for small … The last thing small businesses need is another mandate from the government trying to ‘fix’ a system that isn’t broken.”

“I couldn’t have grown my business into what it is today without digital payments. Transitioning to a fully e-commerce platform provides more safety and security than cash, makes operational tasks simpler, and gives my customers an easy way to make purchases. The Durbin-Marshall credit card bill would turn back the clock on all that progress, with no savings or benefits for small business.”

“Digital payments have made it possible for me to sell products around the world, which makes security and fraud protections critical for my business. My customers rely on the trust and security of the current credit card system. Durbin-Marshall would destroy that trust and make it harder on small businesses like mine.”

I have no doubt that the success of small businesses like mine depends on the safety and rewards provided by the existing credit card payment system. Putting this at risk not only risks the trust our customers place in us, but also puts at risk our ability to compete and succeed.

The credit card system helps make these transactions smoother and safer. Accepting credit cards means I don’t have to worry about safely storing and transporting large amounts of cash or dealing with a bounced check. Using credit cards also gives my customers flexibility and the chance to earn rewards that can be used to subsidize costly purchases. This system works for small businesses and consumers alike.
